WORCSTER—The Worcester Board of Election Commissioners has certified Jermoh Kamara’s recount petitions in all 10 wards, clearing the way for a full hand recount in the razor-thin at-large city council race.
Deputy City Clerk Clare Robbins told the Worcester Guardian that ballot blocking begins Thursday at 1 p.m. at City Hall, with additional blocking continuing Friday.
The hand recount—conducted by a mix of city staff and election workers—is scheduled to start Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at North High School and continue into Sunday if needed.
Robbins said officials are “hoping to have results end of day Sunday.”
The most recent citywide hand recount took place in 2011. Robbins noted that members of the public and press may observe from outside the recount area and do not need to register in advance.
Kamara finished 23 votes behind incumbent Morris “Moe” Bergman in the Nov. 4 municipal election and requested the recount due to the narrow margin.
