Bowditch LLP has again been recognized by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for its efforts to support and advance women in the legal profession.
The law firm recently received the publication’s Empowering Women Award, an annual recognition presented to firms that demonstrate a commitment to recruiting, retaining and promoting women attorneys.
According to the firm’s announcement, Bowditch has earned the recognition every year since the award was established in 2023.
“This award is directly in line with Bowditch’s commitment to advancing the success of the women at our firm,” Tina Bussone, the firm’s chief operating officer, said in the announcement. “We make it a top priority to provide internal support for our women attorneys and staff to help advance their career growth, support their business development, and create a true sense of inclusivity and community.”
The firm said its efforts include a Women’s Initiative launched in 2003 to support the recruitment and retention of women attorneys and staff. The program includes quarterly meetings, networking opportunities and educational events.
According to the announcement, women attorneys at Bowditch also serve in leadership roles within the firm and the broader community, while three-quarters of the firm’s business operations leadership team are women.
The firm also highlighted its history of promoting women into leadership positions, noting that Irene Gowetz became a partner in 1955, at a time when few women held partnership roles at major law firms, and that former Managing Partner Jane Hawkes was among the first women to lead a major Massachusetts law firm.
Bowditch has offices in Worcester, Boston, Southborough and Plymouth.
