A 63-year-old Worcester man has been arrested on charges of raping and indecently assaulting a child under 14 at a church in Milford, according to police.
Raul Feliciano was arrested Friday, Oct. 23, in Worcester following an investigation by the Milford Police Department’s Family Services Unit. He was released later that day on $15,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned this week, police announced Monday.
The investigation began Sept. 9 after a child reported being lured into the basement of the family’s church in Milford, where the alleged sexual assault occurred, according to a statement from Milford police.
Police did not identify the church, disclose when the alleged assault occurred or describe any relationship between Feliciano and the child.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Feliciano on Friday morning, charging him with rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Worcester police took Feliciano into custody at approximately 1:15 p.m. Friday before transferring him to Milford police for booking.
Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino condemned the alleged assault, saying “To violate a child is among the most heinous of crimes. Doing so in place of worship only further cements the depravity of this assault.”
Tusino also credited investigators and officers from the Milford and Worcester police departments and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section for their work in locating and arresting Feliciano.
Police did not provide additional details about the investigation or specify when Feliciano is scheduled to appear in court.
