WORCESTER—A 14-year-old girl was struck and killed by a commuter rail train Thursday night in the Grafton Hill neighborhood of Worcester, authorities confirmed.

According to multiple media reports, including the Telegram & Gazette, the girl was part of a group of teenagers who were trespassing on the tracks of the MBTA’s Framingham-Worcester Line around 8 p.m. near Sunderland Road and Atlas Street.

MBTA Transit Police said the teen was “positioned within the gage of the right of way” when she was hit by the train. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the girl died from her injuries at the scene.

In a statement shared by WCVB, transit police extended condolences to the girl’s family and friends, calling it “a most unimaginable, difficult, and profound tragedy.”

Train service on the line was temporarily suspended Thursday night as crews responded to the scene. Shuttle buses were used to transport passengers. Service resumed Friday morning.

No foul play is suspected, and an investigation is ongoing involving both Transit Police and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

The location near Atlas Street is known locally as a hangout spot for teens during evenings and weekends.

The victim’s name has not been released.
