WORCESTER—For the fifth consecutive year, volunteers from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association, East Side Post 201 American Legion, Main South Post 341, Civil Air Patrol, and Blue Star Mothers of America gather on Wednesday, May 22, at Saint John’s Cemetery in Worcester to honor United States Veterans ahead of the Memorial Day holiday.
Beginning with a Memorial Day observance ceremony that included the National Anthem, Posting of the Colors and brief remarks, more than 175 volunteers placed 5,000 US flags on the graves of veterans in Worcester’s Saint John’s Cemetery.
Volunteers then enjoy lunch compliments of Kevin Mercadante and Christopher Heights Assisted Living.
“Our Annual Flag Day Placement never ceases to amaze me,” said Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis in an announcement. “The outpour of support from the community speaks to the sense of American spirit that runs strong throughout Worcester County. The cemetery is a moving sight after all the flags are placed.”
