WORCESTER—The Worcester Arts Council (WAC) just cracked open the gates to its grant application process for the FY25 funding cycle, with a deadline of Oct. 16. Local artists, nonprofits, schools, libraries, and public agencies are encouraged to apply for a share of the $236,500 in funding available this year—a $10,000 increase from last year’s allocation.
As part of Massachusetts’ network of Local Cultural Councils (LCCs), WAC receives annual funding from the Mass Cultural Council (MCC). Additionally, the Greater Worcester Community Foundation (GWCF) has renewed its $10,000 contribution toward WAC Fellowship Grants, further bolstering support for Worcester’s arts community.
Fabian Barracks, Worcester’s Cultural Development Officer, highlighted the impact of this continued support in a statement: “The commitment from MCC and GWCF has been crucial in fostering Worcester’s vibrant arts and culture scene. Their backing not only sustains but also enhances the creative voices within our community, ensuring Worcester remains a hub of cultural innovation and inclusivity.”
WAC offers two main types of grants: Project Grants and Fellowship Grants. Project Grants are designed to support innovative and collaborative arts and cultural projects in Worcester that benefit the public, reach underserved populations, and demonstrate creative excellence. Fellowship Grants provide Worcester artists with the resources to explore and develop their work independently, beyond the confines of a specific project.
“We’re thrilled to launch our FY25 grant cycle and can’t wait to see the incredible projects our community will bring to life,” said Sean Brennan, chair of the Worcester Arts Council. “The increased funding this year reflects our commitment to nurturing Worcester’s cultural landscape. We believe every idea has the potential to make a lasting impact on the arts in our city.”
For FY25, WAC is prioritizing projects focused on public art, musical performances, arts education, and programs that serve all age groups, from children to seniors. Additionally, projects that highlight the voices and experiences of historically marginalized groups and benefit historically underserved areas of Worcester will receive special consideration.
Grant guidelines and application instructions are available on the city’s website. All applications must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 16. Late submissions will not be accepted. WAC will review applications through November and December, with funding decisions announced in late January 2025.
