WORCESTER—City officials, in an announcement last week, shared that their vision for the city is to “be the best-managed city in the country and create a thriving community where opportunity is available to everyone, regardless of their background or situation in life.”

This vision was shared in tandem of the city’s new strategic plan, unveiled by City Manager Eric D. Batista, to lay out a clear mission, vision, and six priority goals that aim to guide municipal operations and enhance the lives of all residents.

“Our goal is to ensure Worcester delivers the best services possible, with empathy and compassion at the core of everything we do,” said Batista in a statement. “This plan isn’t just for city government—it’s for the people who live, work, and play here.”

The plan focuses on key areas such as public health and safety, affordable housing, economic growth, and clean city initiatives. With input from extensive community engagement and a comprehensive self-study by city departments, the plan offers a roadmap to creating a thriving, inclusive community.

Among its objectives: expanding affordable housing, reducing youth violence and opioid overdoses, and creating 10,000 new jobs by 2030. To read the full plan, visit the city’s Strategic Plan webpage.
