WORCESTER—Despite getting numerous nods online in the ongoing battle for the best chicken sandwich around, BT’s Fried Chicken & BBQ on Park Ave. couldn’t outlast economic headwinds.
The well-loved restaurant on Park Ave. announced it will close its doors for good on March 2. The restaurant, known for its acclaimed chicken sandwiches, cited a combination of economic hardships, supply chain issues, and challenges competing with larger chains as reasons for the closure.
In a statement posted on Facebook, BT’s expressed gratitude for its guests and staff, acknowledging the difficulties that have plagued the restaurant over the past four years.
“From a pandemic to cars driving through the front doors. From an economy that targets small businesses (especially restaurants) to supply chain issues that never seem to get sorted out,” the post read.
The Worcester location opened as a second outpost of BT’s Smokehouse in Sturbridge, a barbecue destination that remains open and will continue operating. While the Worcester restaurant focused more on fried chicken, its flagship location in Sturbridge has built a loyal following among BBQ enthusiasts.
BT’s encouraged fans to visit one last time before the final day of service. “We will miss the chicken on Park Ave. just as much as you will,” the post stated.
