Charlton woman found guilty in 2015 child rape case

Jury convicts foster parent; sentencing set for October

WORCESTER—A Charlton woman has been found guilty of raping a 12-year-old child she was fostering in 2015, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. announced Wednesday.

Heather Wright-Craft, 52, was convicted by a Worcester County Superior Court jury of one count of rape of a child, aggravated by age difference, and one count of rape of a child, aggravated by being a mandated reporter. She was acquitted of one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

Following the verdict, her bail was revoked and she was taken into custody.

The case stemmed from a 2015 incident in Charlton. Wright-Craft was first arrested in August 2017 in Dudley District Court and later indicted in Worcester Superior Court in March 2018.

“I want to thank the Charlton Police Department for their thorough investigation in this case,” Early said in a press release. “I would also like to thank Assistant District Attorney Thomas Ayres and Victim Witness Advocate Rachel Murphy for their excellent work on this case.”

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 21 before Worcester Superior Court Judge Valerie Yarashus.
