WORCESTER—Make room for the younger generation, because they’ve got a lot to say, show and do. And here’s an excellent way for the community to get a taste of what’s going on with our youth in the city.

The Cultural Development Division (CDD) announces that the fourth annual Color the City Festival will take place on Friday, Aug. 16, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Worcester Common.

This festival is a free event that celebrates young talent and highlights the creativity of the next generation of artists, innovators, and changemakers. Organized by the Create 508 youth project in collaboration with the CDD and the Division of Youth Opportunities, the festival promises an array of activities and entertainment.

“The Create 508 youth, in partnership with Program Coordinator Riley Pettit, their artist mentors, and the Worcester creative community, have developed something tremendously special,” said Assistant Cultural Development Officer Yaffa Fain. “We are inspired by the Create 508 youth’s investment in growing our city’s creative spaces designed for and directed by youth.”

Attendees can expect a variety of attractions, including local vendors, art displays, music performances, a fashion show, interactive games, face painting, and diverse food options.

“Our team of talented youth have developed a festival event that cannot be missed and have incorporated dozens of young designers, artists, and vendors into the event plans for a celebration that will ‘wow’ Worcester,” said Program Coordinator Riley Pettit in an announcement.

The festival is supported by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, United Way of Central Massachusetts, Worcester Community Action Council, and the Worcester Cultural Coalition.

Started in 2020, the Create 508 program provides a platform for youth to engage with Worcester’s cultural institutions and creative organizations while developing skills in creative entrepreneurship.
