WORCESTER—Book it, kittens. Worcester’s furriest fundraiser is back—bigger, better, and meowier than ever. The Worcester Public Library (WPL) is once again embracing the internet’s favorite obsession with March Meowness, a month-long cat-themed celebration designed to engage the community and raise funds for summer programming.
Building on last year’s wildly successful campaign—which gained national attention, earned marketing accolades, and was even picked up by The New York Times—March Meowness 2.0 kicks off on March 1 and runs through the end of the month at all WPL locations.
“We were blown away by the community’s enthusiasm last year, and we can’t wait to see how they top it this time,” said Jason Homer, WPL Executive Director, in the announcement. “March Meowness is more than just fun and games—it’s about bringing people together and supporting programs that inspire and engage our community.”
Cat photos for a cause
At the heart of March Meowness is a simple yet impactful fundraising effort: for every cat picture submitted, the Worcester Public Library Foundation will donate $1 toward summer programming for all ages.
Participants can submit photos of their own cat, a famous cat, a shelter cat, or even a hand-drawn cat. Even “honorary cats” (such as dogs, raccoons, or capybaras) are welcome. Pictures can be dropped off in person at any library location, emailed to comms@mywpl.org, or posted on WPL’s social media.
“We’re excited to see the community’s creativity and generosity shine once again,” said Linnea Sheldon, community relations and communications manager, in the announcement. “It’s amazing how something as simple as a cat picture can help us make a big impact.”
More ways to get involved
Beyond sharing cat pictures, WPL will also be collecting pet food donations throughout March at its Main Library (3 Salem Square) and Frances Perkins Branch (470 West Boylston St.). Donations of new, unexpired pet food will be distributed to local pet food pantries.
