Fire at multi-family home in Worcester claims 2 victims

A two-alarm fire that happened on Tuesday at a Hancock Street apartment has claimed the lives of two people

WORCESTER— At approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 28, Worcester Fire firefighters responded to a call for a structure fire at 3 Hancock St. with reports of people trapped inside.

The first responders found heavy fire on the first floor with rapidly deteriorating conditions, according to the Worcester Fire Department.

Crews quickly entered the first floor, initiating both extinguishment efforts and a primary search of the building.

During the search, firefighters found on the first floor two residents, who were removed from the residence and transported to a local hospital by Worcester EMS.

The department has confirmed that the two residents succumbed to their injuries.

WCVB-TV reports that Daniel Gonzalez, 62, and Juana Candelario, 59, were the victims killed in the house fire.

Additionally, two firefighters were transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The fire escalated to two alarms and is currently under investigation. Four adults and three children were displaced.
