Holiday melodies and cheer fill Mechanics Hall this season

December brings free concerts, festive performances, and a community coat drive

WORCESTER—Mechanics Hall will resonate with the sounds of the season this December, hosting an array of holiday events featuring regional musicians, orchestras, and dance troupes. The festivities include free noontime concerts, family-favorite performances, and a coat drive supporting local refugee and migrant families.

“Music and the holidays go hand in hand, and we are so pleased to invite our community to enjoy the most delightful sounds of the season with us here at Mechanics Hall,” said Kathleen Gagne, executive director of Mechanics Hall.

Highlights of the holiday lineup include:

  • Dec. 7, 8 p.m.: Handel’s Messiah by The Worcester Chorus, presented by Music Worcester.
  • Dec. 8, 1 p.m.: Holiday Tea by Blissful Tea Party
  • Dec. 11, noon: A free Brown Bag Holiday Concert featuring the U.S. Navy Band Northeast and the New England Conservatory Chamber Singers
  • Dec. 14, 8 p.m.: The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra’s 43rd Annual Holiday Pops Concert
  • Dec. 15, 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.: The Nutcracker Ballet by Dance Prism
  • Dec. 18, noon: A free holiday music performance by Mechanics Hall Principal Organist Peter Krasinski, the All Saints Church Choir, and soloist Christon Carney
  • Dec. 20, 7:30 p.m.: Singer-songwriter Cara Brindisi’s Winter Solstice Celebration
  • Dec. 21, 4 p.m.: Worcester Youth Orchestra’s Holiday Family Pops
  • Dec. 28, 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.: Bob Marley Comedy Show

Giving back: winter coat drive

In the spirit of the season, Mechanics Hall has partnered with Friendly House Inc. and the Worcester Area Mission Society to host a Winter Coat Drive. Donations of new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and scarves can be dropped off at Mechanics Hall through Dec. 31. Contributions will be distributed to refugee and migrant families adjusting to New England winters.
