Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- When the lights go down at Rascals: Journey fans won’t want to miss The Great Escape, a top-tier tribute band bringing the iconic group’s biggest hits to life. Known for its high-energy performances and loyal following, the band delivers the ultimate Journey experience. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., music starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 for Early GA Advance, $17 for GA Advance, and $25 day of show. Early GA ticket holders must arrive by 7:30 p.m. to guarantee seating. Ages 21+ only.
- A night of Queen at the Hanover Theatre: Almost Queen isn’t just a tribute band—they recreate the magic and energy of Queen with stunning accuracy, from four-part harmonies to spot-on musical interludes. Their setlist features all the classics, including “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “We Will Rock You,” and “Somebody to Love.” The show starts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Hanover Theatre. Tickets range from $29.50 to $79.50, with discounts available for Broadway subscribers.
- Chills and thrills at the Dead of Winter Horror Festival: Horror fans, brace yourselves—the Dead of Winter Horror Festival returns to Mechanics Hall on Feb. 22 and 23, blending the best of horror films and conventions into one spine-tingling weekend. The lineup features a long list of chilling films, including “11,” “Borrowed Time,” “Ouchie,” “Solus,” and “Last Night.” Get a ticket for one day or immerse yourself in the full weekend experience.
- Celebrate Haitian culture in Worcester: Experience the vibrant music, dance, poetry, and cuisine of Haiti at Sware Kiltirèl (Haitian Cultural Night) on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 7-9 p.m. at the Walnut Wing Conference Room, 18 Chestnut St. This grassroots, community-led event offers an open mic format where Haitian artists share their talents, with food and artwork available for purchase. Admission is free and open to all ages, with donations welcome to support future events. Use 1 Maple Place for parking and entrance.
- College weekend at the Oval Ice Rink: College students, grab your skates. The Worcester Common Oval Ice Skating Rink is hosting college weekend from Friday, Feb. 21, to Sunday, Feb. 23, offering a fun and affordable way to hit the ice. The first 50 students with a valid college ID each day will receive free admission (normally $6). Skate rentals are available for $6, or bring your own. Sponsored by the Worcester Business Development Corporation, Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA. Note: everyone is welcome even though it’s college weekend.
