Leaf It to the city: Worcester’s annual fall pickup starts soon

City’s Department of Public Works outlines pickup schedule and drop-off site hours for 2025 program

WORCESTER — Rake now, relax later. The city’s annual fall leaf collection program begins Monday, Nov. 3, giving residents a few weeks to clear their yards before winter sets in — and avoid being stuck with bags of leaves long after the last frost.

The Department of Public Works announced Tuesday that its 2025 Fall Leaf Collection Program continue for four to five weeks after it kicks off, weather permitting.

Leaf collection follows the city’s regular trash collection routes, starting with Wednesday’s route. Crews will not collect leaves on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, or Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27.

Before collection begins in each area, streets will be posted with signs announcing a temporary parking ban. Vehicles left on the street during collection will be ticketed, according to the announcement. Residents are asked to rake leaves from sidewalks and lawns to the edge of the street gutter, then push them into the gutter just before or during the weekend prior to their scheduled pickup date.

The DPW advises residents to check the full collection schedule and updates at www.worcesterma.gov/streets/fall-leaf-collection.

Residents may also dispose of leaves at one of three city-operated Yard Waste Disposal Sites. The 1065 Millbury St. site — the only location that also accepts brush and small branches — will be open Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Chandler Street and Clark Street sites will be open Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Appointments are not required at any site.
