WORCESTER—The Worcester City Council meets this week with a relatively light agenda for their upcoming session.
At the Sept. 27 meeting, Councilor Khrystian King introduced a request for the city manager to provide an in-depth analysis of Worcester Regional Transit Authority (WRTA) ridership. The report aims to understand why residents use WRTA services, and King called for collaboration with local institutions to collect relevant data. The order was adopted unanimously and will be followed up in future discussions.
In addition, councilors will enact an amendment to the salary ordinance for members of Local 1009 and Local 504, which includes firefighters and police supervisors. Pay increases, along with adjustments to leave benefits, are part of newly ratified collective bargaining agreements with both unions.
Other notable agenda items include the following:
- Event permit fee review: Councilor Khrystian King requests a report on potential waivers for permit fees related to running events in the city. The order passed unanimously.
- Streetlight safety upgrade: King is also calling for improved lighting at the South Ludlow and Clover streets intersection following a recent pedestrian fatality. The order passed with unanimous approval.
Worcester City Council meets on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at City Hall in the Esther Howland (south) Chamber at 6:30 p.m.
