WORCESTER—Manchester Community College (MCC) and Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) have teamed up to make it easier for MCC students to transfer to WPI. The new agreement ensures that MCC students who meet the program requirements will be guaranteed admission to WPI. This partnership opens up more pathways for students and boosts access to STEM education.
While MCC grads have transferred to WPI before, this agreement simplifies the process and expands opportunities.
“Encouraging students to begin their science and engineering degrees at Manchester Community College with a clear pathway to WPI makes college more accessible and affordable for many students,” said Brian Bicknell, MCC president, in a statement. “Thanks to this agreement, students can matriculate at MCC as Life Science, Advanced Manufacturing, Robotics, or Mechatronics students—all programs with extensive math and science classes—then transfer those credits to WPI.”
“The partnership between Manchester Community College and WPI will facilitate a seamless transfer process, removing barriers that many students face on their educational journey,” said Grace Wang, WPI president, added in the announcement. “This collaboration supports the talent and economic development of our collective regions by creating new opportunities to meet workforce demands.”
Simply put, MCC and WPI have made transferring more straightforward. MCC students with an associate degree who have completed precalculus or Calculus I and a lab science course, and maintained a GPA of 3.3 or higher, are guaranteed admission to WPI. Even students without an associate degree but with a 3.0 GPA and the specified courses can transfer to WPI’s programs in engineering, arts and sciences, or business.
Admitted students will receive support from WPI’s Academic Advising Office and Office of Undergraduate Studies, gain access to the Heebner Career Development Center, and have summer research opportunities. They will also participate in a semester-long transition program and receive a summer course tuition waiver for two summers. There are additional opportunities for graduate programs for qualifying students.
MCC offers rolling admissions, so there is still time to register for Fall ’24. More information is available at MCC Admissions. Information about WPI admissions and transfer requirements can be found at WPI Transfer.
