Marley bash, title fight watch, scavenger hunt: weekend fun

There’s never a lack of things to do in and around Worcester. We highlight five per week, and here they are

Worcester’s got it all, from prize fighters in Vegas to great music and events for kids Each week, the Worcester Guardian highlights events and activities you may want to consider over the weekend ahead.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. Don’t worry, ‘bout a thing: Everything’s gonna be all right at this Bob Marley birthday bash at the Worcester Youth Center on Saturday, Feb. 10, from 1-5 p.m. The event is a celebration of the life, music, and legacy of Reggae legend Bob Marley. It includes live performances, trivia, Jamaican cuisine and more. Everyone’s welcome to this family-friendly event.
  2. Title fight watch party: Watch and cheer on Worcester’s own Jamaine Ortiz on the big screen as he fights for his first World Boxing Championship. Ortiz takes on WBO Super Lightweight Champ Teofimo Lopez in Las Vegas. The party kicks off at 8 p.m. at Off the Rails on Thursday, Feb. 8. There’s no cover, free appetizers, a cash bar, raffles and food for sale.
  3. Get caught in the Crossfire: We’re not sure if the band plays any Stevie Ray Vaughan as its name would imply, but it does play a rocking mix of covers that defies categorizing. Crossfire’s got southern rock covered with the Allman Brothers, ZZ Top and Molly Hatchett, but pivots to new wave such as Billy Idol and the Romantics and also hits heavier stuff by Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, Van Halen, Poison and Metallica. Oh, and some Chuck Berry and Johnny Cash are sprinkled in. It’s rock ‘n’ roll all over the place at Greendale’s on Friday, Feb. 9.
  4. Kid Sundays: snuggle up with smiley: With support from the Worcester Historical Museum, Smiley is hanging out at Tidepool Book Shop on Sunday, Feb. 11, at 2 p.m. to read stories about Worcester. This event is geared toward kids, but adults will likely enjoy it, as well.
  5. Family friendly scavenger hunt, Worcester style: Play alone or with a group on this two day scavenger hunt (Saturday and Sunday) that can be played (on an app) on your own schedule. Fill your virtual scavenger sack with the items you help choose through riddle-like clues. Explore your surroundings, attempting to quickly locate a variety of items as they are revealed one at a time by your game master. Find out all the details here.
