Milford man charged after assault leaves one dead

A 60-year-old Milford man faces serious charges after an assault at a housing authority property resulted in the death of a 54-year-old man

MILFORD—A Milford man is facing multiple charges after an assault last week left another man dead, according to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

John J. Bonnell, 60, was arraigned in Milford District Court on charges of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury and assault with intent to murder, the district attorney’s office said in a release. He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for May 11.

The charges stem from an incident on May 1 at a local housing authority property, where police were called for an emergency following what authorities described as an earlier altercation between Bonnell and 54-year-old Michael Albro.

Albro suffered serious injuries and was taken to UMass Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the release.

The circumstances surrounding the altercation were not detailed in the announcement. The case remains under investigation by the Milford Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the district attorney’s office.
