WORCESTER—Utility work connected to the ongoing redevelopment of the Lakeside Apartments temporarily limits on-street parking and affect traffic along Lakeside Ave., according to a joint announcement related to the project.
Crews for National Grid are scheduled to perform trenching and conduit installation work along Lakeside Avenue beginning Monday, Dec. 22, with work planned for Dec. 22 and 23 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Construction will pause for Christmas before resuming Dec. 29 and 30 during the same hours. Additional work is scheduled for the weeks of Jan. 5 and Jan. 12, 2026, with crews expected to be on site five days each week from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., the announcement stated.
Work begins at the intersection of Lovell Street and Lakeside Avenue and move toward Coes Pond, including sidewalk areas and the crossing at Veterans Ave. Throughout construction, parking along the north, or building side, of Lakeside Ave. is restricted. Vehicles parked in designated work zones will be towed by the city, according to the notice. Parking remains permitted on the south, or canal side, of the street.
Traffic will be reduced to a single travel lane for cars and buses, though one lane will remain open at all times. A police officer will be stationed on site during construction and safety fencing, cones and temporary pedestrian pathways will be installed to maintain access and safety.
According to the announcement, crews will excavate a trench, install National Grid conduit, pour concrete to secure it, and restore pavement by the end of each workday. Signage identifying restricted parking areas will be posted nightly, though officials cautioned that parking may be challenging during the work period.
The Worcester Housing Authority said it will continue to share updates as each phase of the Lakeside Apartments redevelopment moves forward.
