Pow-wow, punk rock, water-skiing: 5 fun things this weekend

Worcester County’s got it going on. There are a whole lot of events happening in and around Worcester. The Worcester Guardian highlights some events you may want to consider attending over the weekend

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. We & the Dawg, dog! Cool tunes in a cool setting. We & the Dawg, which has pieces of Little Red and the Riders and Big Dawg (namely, singer Bruce Reed), dishes out vintage R&B and soul at Blue Collar Vintage in Cherry Valley. Sit on the sloped field (which gives everyone a great view) and bring a picnic. If the weather is bad, the party moves to Halligan’s in Auburn. The show starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 1.
  2. Spring into the Mansion: Back by popular demand, the legendary Hebert Candy Mansion in Shrewsbury is hosting its SpringFest on Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There’s no admission fee for this fun day that includes more than 50 vendors of local artisans, crafts, food trucks, kids activities, and more. Spend an hour or hang out for the day, and don’t forget all the candy and ice cream available inside.
  3. Get yer thrills out: Punk quartet American Thrills hasn’t been to Worcester in quite some time. The band is returning for a show at the Hotel Vernon on Friday, May 31. It’s also sharing the stage with Hemingway, Sowing, Amulettte, Ring Pop.
  4. Wow! WIIC’s annual Pow-Wow: The Worcester Inter-Tribal Indian Center is holding its 41st annual Pow-Wow on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2, at the Treasure Valley Boy Scout Reservation in Rutland. The idea is to share the beauty of the Native American experience and to promote education and appreciation for the customs and creations of various tribes. Proceeds from our fundraising events throughout the year go to fund not only the Powwow, but also educational programs, demonstrations, events, and book grants.
  5. Ski for free…on the water: Ever wish you could ski the lake like a pro? Or even good enough so you don’t fall down? There’s a ski clinic on Saturday, June 1, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Webster Lake. No experience is necessary. The boat, skis, life jackets and instruction is provided. “This is also a great time to find out about our Ski Collective that has programs for all skills and abilities and is now skiing on three different lakes in Central Massachusetts.”
