WORCESTER—English language learners (ELLs) will have two free options to choose from in the healthcare course offerings at Quinsigamond Community College this year.
The school’s Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education is offering the Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide course and the Clinical Medical Assistant course, both of which cover the necessary English terminology, as well as the medical content for participants to prepare for certification.
Both courses include books, scrubs, supplies and certification testing upon completion. Resume writing and interviewing skills are also covered in both programs.
The Clinical Medical Assistant option covers basics such as scheduling systems, medical records and routine care, as well as more in-depth topics like phlebotomy theory, pharmacology and medical ethics. The course runs from Feb. 20 to June 14, 2024.
The Nurse Assistant/Home Health Aide option covers basic patient care and procedures as well as specifics related to individual care for patients who choose to live in their own homes or in residential facilities. This course runs from Jan. 30 to April 13.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment of home health aides is projected to grow 22 percent from 2022 to 2032. BLS projected medical assistant employment to grow 14 percent during the same period. Both growth rates are faster than the average for all occupations, which is three percent.
