WORCESTER—Quinsigamond Community College President Luis G. Pedraja, Ph.D., has been appointed as a delegate to the New England Board of Higher Education by Governor Maura Healey, the school announced on Tuesday.
This appointment highlights Pedraja’s leadership in higher education and his dedication to expanding educational opportunities in Central Massachusetts.
The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) is a congressionally authorized organization that promotes equitable access to higher education across New England. NEBHE collaborates with leaders in all six states to develop and implement effective educational practices and policies.
“We are thrilled to appoint Dr. Luis Pedraja to the New England Board of Higher Education,” said Governor Healey in the announcement. “His commitment to equitable access has been evident throughout his successful career. Pedraja brings more than 30 years of higher education experience to the position, including seven years as president of Quinsigamond Community College. During his tenure, QCC has increased enrollment, launched student success initiatives, developed a strategic plan, expanded community partnerships, enhanced workforce development programs, and achieved reaccreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education, according to the announcement.
“It is an honor to serve on the New England Board of Higher Education. I look forward to representing our Commonwealth and promoting equitable access to higher education on a broader scale,” Pedraja stated in a press release.
In addition to his new role, Pedraja serves as a commissioner on the New England Commission of Higher Education and is a member of the Worcester Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Worcester Regional Research Bureau Board, among other community organizations.
