For much of the past five seasons, Tim Foley has worked behind the scenes helping tell the Worcester Railers’ story.
This week, the league recognized him for it.
Foley, the Railers’ broadcasting and media relations coordinator, was named the recipient of the ECHL’s Joe Babik Award as Media/PR Director of the Year during the league’s summer meetings in Nashville, Tennessee. According to a team announcement, it is the first time the Worcester franchise has received the honor.
The award recognizes excellence in media relations and public communications across the ECHL.
Foley recently completed his fourth season as the Railers’ broadcasting and media relations coordinator and his fifth year with the organization overall.
According to the team, the Railers significantly expanded their media presence during the 2025-26 season under Foley’s direction, earning coverage across television, radio and print outlets throughout Central Massachusetts while maintaining regular weekly radio appearances.
Among the organization’s most visible initiatives was the launch of its “Month of Giving” campaign in September 2025.
The program encouraged each member of the Railers’ front office to volunteer with a local nonprofit organization while directing a $1,000 donation from the Worcester Railers Foundation to each employee’s selected charity.
During the same initiative, the Railers partnered with America’s VetDogs to welcome Deke, a future service dog being raised by the organization before eventually being placed with a veteran or first responder.
According to the announcement, Foley helped generate widespread media attention for both initiatives, resulting in coverage across television, newspapers and radio stations throughout Central Massachusetts.
The recognition comes as the Railers continue to emphasize community engagement as a cornerstone of the franchise. Earlier this month, the organization was named a finalist for the ECHL Community Service Team of the Year Award for the eighth consecutive season.
The Railers also received league nominations this year for Community Service Team of the Year, Most Creative Revenue Generation of the Year and Corporate Partnerships Professional of the Year, recognizing Paul O’Leary.
Foley’s honor was presented during the 2026 ECHL Hockey Summer Meetings, held this week in Nashville.
With preparations underway for the 2026-27 season—including the team’s recently announced affiliation with the St. Louis Blues organization— the award provides another milestone for a franchise that has continued to earn league recognition both on and off the ice.
