WORCESTER—Saint-Gobain marked a significant milestone on Aug. 26 with a groundbreaking ceremony for its new administration building on the flagship abrasives manufacturing campus in Worcester.

This development continues Saint-Gobain’s long-standing presence in the Worcester community, where its Norton Abrasives subsidiary has operated for more than a century.

The event featured remarks from key figures including Patrick Dwyer, vice resident of Abrasives North America, and Abby Marschke, executive director of marketing, retail, and customer services for Abrasives North America. They were joined by Massachusetts State Senator Robyn Kennedy, Mayor Joseph Petty, City Manager Eric Batista, and Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Timothy Murray.

The 47,000-square-foot building, developed by Pure Development and led by DPR Construction, highlights Saint-Gobain’s commitment to sustainability, according to the announcement. The project uses several of the company’s eco-friendly solutions, including SageGlass electrochromic glass and CertainTeed Glasroc gypsum sheathing, and is expected to be completed by January 2026.

Dwyer noted that the project reaffirms Saint-Gobain’s commitment to Worcester, a city that has supported the company for more than a century. DPR Construction’s Boston Business Unit Leader, Patrick Cusson, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of local hiring and workforce opportunities during the construction.

As part of the project, Saint-Gobain has signed a Community Benefits Commitment, setting goals for local hiring, supplier diversity, and inclusion of underrepresented groups. This initiative follows Saint-Gobain’s recent contribution of approximately 51 acres to the Worcester Business Development Corporation as part of the Greendale Revitalization Plan.

The Worcester groundbreaking is part of a broader growth strategy for Saint-Gobain in North America, which has included several acquisitions and partnerships in recent months, further solidifying the company’s position in the market, according to a press release.
