WORCESTER—Worcester-area high school seniors hoping to study environmental fields in college have a chance at a major scholarship opportunity.
The Henry David Thoreau Foundation is offering collegiate scholarships worth up to $26,000 over four years to eight to ten students graduating from a Massachusetts high school in spring 2026. Winners may attend any college or university in the world while pursuing a major or minor in an environmentally related discipline.
According to the announcement, “Henry David Thoreau Scholars have studied a wide variety of environmentally related areas, including biology, epidemiology, oceanography, international affairs, and environmental law.” Scholarship recipients are also encouraged to take part in internships or study abroad programs “to broaden their awareness and understanding of environmental issues.”
In addition to tuition support, the foundation helps connect students with internships, networking opportunities, and stipends tied to environmental leadership. Graduates of the scholarship program are inducted into the Henry David Thoreau Society.
Students have until Feb. 1, 2026, to apply. More information and the application is available on the foundation’s website.
