SHREWSBURY—One of the region’s most popular summer traditions returns Saturday, June 7, when the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office hosts its annual drive-thru senior picnic at SAC Park.

The free event, open to all Worcester County seniors, runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Scandinavian Athletic Club, 438 Lake St. Cars often begin arriving as early as 9:30 a.m., with peak traffic expected around 11:15 a.m., according to an announcement from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office.

This year’s event again features a drive-thru format, offering boxed BBQ lunches, goodie bags, music, raffle prizes, and giveaways for participants — all from the comfort of their vehicles.

“The senior picnic marks the beginning of summer for many in Worcester County,” Worcester County Sheriff Lew Evangelidis said in the release. “I am excited to reconnect with friends and familiar faces whom we see throughout the year at local senior centers and community events. As sheriff, it is my mission to support the communities we serve. Our older generations deserve to be celebrated for all they have accomplished and continue to contribute to our communities.”

The event is organized by the sheriff’s office in partnership with the Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association and a broad group of community sponsors.

This year’s sponsors and supporters include CareOne at Millbury, The Overlook, The Gun Parlor, Table Talk Pies, Mercadante Funeral Home, Worcester Red Sox, Massachusetts State Lottery, Chick-fil-A Worcester and Westborough, Automatic Rolls of New England, Pam Massad in memory of David and Bette Massad, Commerce Associates & The Krock Family, JV Mechanical Contractors, Inc., Diamond Auto Group, Falcone Enterprises, NEPBA Local 550, The Savickas Family, Worcester Housing Authority, and House Hangers.
