Strings, rock 4 vets, art opening, cookies: 5 things this weekend

Get out of the house! There’s plenty to do. The Worcester Guardian highlights events you may want to consider.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:

  1. An Enchanting Evening of Brahms at Tuckerman Hall: On Saturday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m., experience Brahms’ Horn Trio as it was meant to be heard—on the natural horn—at A Very Special Brahms at Tuckerman Hall. Featuring RJ Kelley on valveless horn, Geneva Lewis on violin, and Andrew Armstrong on piano, this intimate performance also includes Franck’s breathtaking Violin Sonata. A rare treat for classical music lovers.
  2. Rockin’ for the vets: Catch an unforgettable night of live music at the Vernon Hill American Legion Post in Worcester this Saturday, March 29, as the legendary James Montgomery Band brings the party to benefit Project New Hope, an organization supporting veterans facing PTSD and other challenges. The night kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with local talent, including Kevin James Graham, a recent contestant on NBC’s The Voice and a member of Team Reba. Far From Eden, a popular Worcester-based band, will open the show.
  3. Sweeten up spring with flower power cookies: Get creative at the Tatnuck Magnet branch of the Worcester Public Library with a fun-filled cookie decorating event. Kids can turn plain cookies into vibrant spring flowers using frosting and decorations—just in time for the season. While supplies last. Takes place Friday, March 28, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at 1083 Pleasant St., Worcester. A perfect way to swap screen time for sprinkle time.
  4. Art that speaks: Kassandra Hostage’s solo exhibition ‘Discernment’: Get ready to immerse yourself in the captivating world of Kassandra Hostage’s newest works at her first solo painting exhibition, Discernment. The opening reception is Saturday, March 29, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the JMAC Gallery, located at 20 Franklin St., Worcester. Whether you’re an art enthusiast or just looking for something new, this exhibition is a must-see.
  5. A string sensation: WYO’s 2025 String Fest hits the right note: The Worcester Youth Orchestras present the 2025 String Fest, a collaborative performance featuring the Worcester Youth Philharmonic Strings, String Orchestra, and Quabbin Regional School District String Program. This capstone concert, held Saturday, March 29, at 4 p.m. at Mechanics Hall, highlights a year of musical growth supported by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation. With Artist-in-Residence Patrick Chatham working closely with students, the program showcases the power of arts education and community collaboration.
