WORCESTER—A salon that’s made a name for itself by blending haircare with heart—and a healthy dose of fandom—is hosting its official grand opening this Saturday, June 21, to mark one year in business.
The Nerdy Salon, located at 400 Grove St., is celebrating its first anniversary with a public open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., complete with nerdy trivia, themed fun, and tours of its uniquely inclusive, sensory-friendly space.
More than just a typical salon, The Nerdy Salon was designed to be a safe, welcoming environment for neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ clients. Since its soft opening in 2023, it’s cultivated a loyal following in Worcester by offering low-stimulation hair services in a judgment-free setting.
“We’ve spent the last year building a space where comfort and self-care go hand in hand—with a fun twist,” said founder and owner Melissa Chan in an announcement. “This celebration is a thank-you to our amazing community and an open invitation for others to come see what we’re all about.”
Saturday’s festivities include salon tours showcasing the space’s sensory-aware layout, complete with quiet zones, fidget-friendly options, and mellow lighting. Guests can enjoy free snacks from the drink and snack bar, take part in fandom-themed activities, and show off their best graphic tees or cosplay.
Free parking is available, and organizers promise a “laid-back, come-as-you-are vibe.”
The business emphasizes high-quality hair services with accommodations for clients who might otherwise find a traditional salon overwhelming—think: customizable lighting, quiet appointments, and inclusive consultations.
