Trailer Trash, coins, dumplings: 5 fun things this weekend

There’s a whole lot to do in Worcester this weekend. Here are our picks

Worcester’s hopping! Each week, the Worcester Guardian highlights events and activities you may want to consider over the weekend ahead.

Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester (or very close by) this weekend:

  1. It’s a rent party, ya’ll: Meryl’s Safe Haven is hosting its first fundraiser, which includes an auction, food, music and more to raise funds to help shelter young people. It takes place on Saturday, Jan. 13, 6-9 p.m. in the White Room at Crompton Collective.
  2. Those guys are Trailer Trash: These five musicians have been playing together for a long time, and have had quite a few incarnations, riding the tides of the times and switching genres. Today, they’re filling what they see as a need, particularly in the Worcester area. Modern country. Trailer Trash plays it at Off the Rails on Saturday. The show starts at 7 p.m.
  3. Dabbling in the delectable delight of dumplings: Mint’s head chef Trang Le leads this class on dumpling making on Saturday, Jan. 13, at noon (or Monday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m.) at Mint Kitchen & Bar. Tickets are $70 each or two for $130. In this two-hour class, participants load, fold and cook the dumplings while enjoying some light refreshments. Leave with lots of dumplings, too!
  4. To coin an event: This one’s outside of the city. In Auburn. On Sunday, Jan. 14, the Elks Club in Auburn is hosting a Coin Show, Gold and Silver that features more than 40 dealers from New England and New York. That’s 45 tables of coins and currency. The event, which takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and so are appraisals.
  5. They’re here to ‘sympathize and hypnotize’: Dred Buffalo says it plays “bog rock,” which is psychedelic, bluesy rock out of “the bogs of Plymouth, MA.” The band headlines the show at the Palladium on Saturday, Jan. 13, with openers the Stone Nobles, and Moments.
