WORCESTER—The city announced Monday that its permanent winter parking ban will take effect Dec. 1 and remain in place through April 30, 2026 — or April 1 on residential streets.
According to the announcement, the permanent winter parking ban applies to emergency arteries, WRTA bus routes, and other streets considered critical to traffic flow. Parking is prohibited on one or both sides of these streets between 2 and 6 a.m., as well as any time a snow emergency is declared.
The city also implements a declared winter parking ban on all other streets whenever accumulating snow is forecast. During a declared ban, parking is allowed only on the odd-numbered side of the street unless posted otherwise. Municipal garages will be free to use for the duration of the ban, the city said.
Officials emphasized that Worcester 311 is the primary source for information on winter parking rules, street-specific regulations, and snow-related complaints. Residents can also follow Worcester 311 on X and Facebook or tune in to Government Access Channel 192 for updates.
In the announcement, the city stressed that “illegally parked vehicles are the biggest obstacle to effective snow removal efforts” and warned that cars violating winter parking rules “will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.” The city urged residents to follow the restrictions to help crews keep roads safe and passable.
