WooSox mascot event to benefit foundation

Worcester Red Sox mascot Smiley Ball will roll burritos at an Anna’s Taqueria event in Natick on April 14, with proceeds benefiting the WooSox Foundation.

WORCESTER—The Worcester Red Sox mascot will swap the baseball field for a burrito line next week as part of a fundraising event benefiting the WooSox Foundation.

Smiley Ball is scheduled to appear April 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Anna’s Taqueria, 1265 Worcester St. in Natick, as part of the restaurant’s “Mascot Rolling Series,” according to an announcement.

During the event, Smiley Ball and WooSox volunteers known as “Dreammakers” will assist staff by preparing burritos for customers. Anna’s Taqueria will donate proceeds from each entrée purchased during the two-hour event to the WooSox Foundation, according to the announcement.

The event is open to the public and will also include branded keepsakes for attendees and a raffle for a four-pack of tickets to Polar Park.

The “Mascot Rolling Series” features New England sports mascots working behind the counter to raise money for their team’s affiliated nonprofit organizations, according to the announcement. The April 14 event marks the latest installment in the series.

The WooSox Foundation supports families in Worcester and throughout New England through initiatives focused on education, social justice, cancer support and recreation, according to the announcement.

Anna’s Taqueria, founded in 1995, operates locations across the Greater Boston area and hosts periodic community fundraising events as part of its outreach efforts.

The April 14 fundraiser is expected to draw Worcester-area fans traveling east to support the team’s nonprofit arm while interacting with the mascot outside of game day.
