WORCESTER— Frederick “Fred” M. Misilo, Jr., an attorney with Worcester-based law firm Fletcher Tilton PC, has been elected chair of the board of directors for The Arc US Foundation, a Washington, D.C.-based organization that supports advocacy and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
The Arc US Foundation works to advance the mission of The Arc of the United States, the nation’s largest community-based organization advocating for people with I/DD and their families. With nearly 600 state and local chapters, The Arc provides resources, services, and advocacy to ensure individuals with I/DD can fully participate in their communities.
“The Arc’s current top priorities are to protect Medicaid’s health and home and community-based services that people with disabilities rely on to live with independence in their community,” Misilo said in a statement announcing his election, “and to ensure that children with disabilities receive appropriate special education services in our nation’s schools.”
As chair, Misilo will focus on expanding support for The Arc’s initiatives, raising awareness of the organization’s mission, and providing strategic guidance to its national board of directors.
Misilo, Jr. brings more than 35 years of experience in estate planning, trust management, and special needs and elder law. Admitted to practice in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Florida, he holds the designation of Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA).
Misilo has a long history of public service, previously serving as president of The Arc of the United States and The Arc of Massachusetts, as well as chair of the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce. He currently chairs the Board of Directors of Fallon Health and has held leadership roles in state and local government, including as Deputy Commissioner for the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services.
Misilo, a longtime advocate for individuals with disabilities, expressed his commitment to strengthening The Arc’s impact. “My role includes expanding the base of support for The Arc to achieve its priorities, serving as a brand ambassador to increase awareness of this valuable non-profit organization, and providing strategic advice to The Arc’s national board of directors,” he said.
