WORCESTER—With a snowstorm approaching, Worcester has declared a winter parking ban, set to take effect at 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
To accommodate residents, all municipal parking garages will be free for vehicles entering after 6 p.m. Tuesday until the parking ban is lifted. However, event rates will apply for special events. The available garages include:
- Federal Plaza Garage – 570 Main St.
- Pearl & Elm Garage – 20 Pearl St.
- Worcester Common Garage – 3 Eaton Place
- Union Station Garage – 225 Franklin St.
- Major Taylor Blvd Garage – 30 Major Taylor Blvd.
During the ban, parking is prohibited on both sides of main roads, emergency and bus routes, and downtown streets crucial for traffic flow. On all other streets, parking is allowed only on the odd-numbered side, unless otherwise posted. Residents can check their street’s parking status online at worcesterma.gov.
Vehicles in violation may be ticketed or towed. To locate a towed vehicle or ask questions, residents can contact Worcester 311 by dialing 3-1-1, emailing 311@worcesterma.gov, or visiting worcesterma.gov/311. The service will be available starting at 6 a.m. Wednesday. Requests can also be submitted 24/7 through the 311 app and email.
Trash and recycling pickup remains on schedule for Wednesday.
Officials urge residents to limit travel during the storm and allow extra time if driving. Motorists should stay clear of plows and road treatment vehicles. Property owners are reminded they have up to 10 hours after the storm ends to clear sidewalks of snow and ice. Those who can are encouraged to clear snow from fire hydrants and catch basins. Snow should not be shoveled into the street.
