Worcester Library hosts free book giveaway for teachers

Event supports Worcester Public School elementary educators with books and resources

WORCESTER—The Worcester Public Library is hosting a special event for Worcester Public School elementary teachers, offering free books to help expand classroom libraries and support literacy efforts.

The event is set for Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the WPL’s downtown location at 3 Salem Square. Teachers attending the event can choose from nearly 200 book titles, tailored to students with K-3rd grade reading levels, including resources for social-emotional learning, independent reading, and multilingual titles in Spanish, Portuguese, and Vietnamese.

“We are thrilled to support Worcester Public School teachers with this event,” said Angela Bennett, deputy director of Youth Services at WPL, in a statement. “By providing access to high-quality, diverse books, we hope to inspire young readers, foster social-emotional learning, and help build classroom libraries that reflect our community.”

Teachers also have opportunities to participate in giveaways for classroom supplies, meet literacy partners, and explore the library’s newly renovated children’s room. Representatives from Follett are joining the event to share tools for organizing classroom libraries.

Teachers are encouraged to register for weather updates but may attend without registration. Supplies are limited, and a WPS ID is required for check-in. Register at mywpl.libnet.info/event/12461589.

The event is funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds provided by the City of Worcester.
