WORCESTER—A Worcester man has been convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the 2019 killing of a 23-year-old Fitchburg man near Pie Alley, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

A jury at Worcester Superior Court found Mugisha Jeanbosco, 27, guilty in the shooting death of Leon Wilson Jr. on July 11, 2019. Jeanbosco was also convicted of armed robbery. The murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 1.

Wilson was found dead in an alley off Main Street in downtown Fitchburg in what authorities described as a robbery that turned fatal.

Two other men, Jason Robinson, 39, of Fitchburg, and Jonathan Baez, 25, of Worcester, were later charged in connection with the killing. Both face counts of armed robbery and accessory after the fact of murder. They were arraigned in 2020 and are due back in court on August 25.

“I want to thank Assistant District Attorneys Brett Dillon and Shayna Woodard for their hard work prosecuting this case, as well as Victim Witness Advocate Kayley Jones for working to keep the family informed throughout the duration of the case,” said District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. in a statement.

Fitchburg Police Chief Steven D. Giannini also credited his department’s initial response, saying, “Their careful preservation of the crime scene and thorough initial fact gathering were critical to the investigation.”

The case was investigated by Fitchburg Police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
