Worcester PD offers firearms safety course; understand the basics

WORCESTER—The Worcester Police Department is holding a Firearms Basic Safety Course on Monday, Dec. 30, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at police headquarters, located at 9-11 Lincoln Square.

This course provides basic safety training, an essential step in fostering responsible gun ownership and ensuring public safety. Proper education about firearm handling and storage can reduce accidents and contribute to safer communities. The course is also a requirement for individuals seeking a License to Carry (LTC) or a Firearms Identification Card (FID) in Massachusetts.

Registration is open to both residents and non-residents, with fees set at $20 for Worcester residents and $35 for non-residents. Payment must be made by cash, check, or money order payable to the City of Worcester; credit and debit cards are not accepted. All fees are non-refundable.

Participants must register in advance at the Worcester Police Department’s License Division, open Monday through Friday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 1-2:30 p.m. Space is limited, and slots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Appointments for processing LTCs or FIDs can also be scheduled by calling the License Division at 508-799-8648 during registration hours.
