WORCESTER—Known for finding creative ways to get the community excited about reading, the Worcester Public Library’s newest idea is a bookmark design contest in honor of National Library Card Sign-up Month. A library card opens doors to more than just books—and this September, it could also open the door to a little bit of fame.
This design contest is open to anyone with a W, and submissions are accepted from Sept. 1-30, with winners chosen in four categories: kid (ages 0–7), tween (8–12), teen (13–17), and adult (18 and older).
“The top designs will be printed and made available as bookmarks in the winter of 2025–26,” the library announced.
Artwork may be created digitally or with traditional media such as colored pencil, paint, or markers. AI-generated designs will not be considered. Don’t even try it!
A committee then handpicks three finalists in each category, to be announced Oct. 10. Public voting follows, running through Oct. 31. Winners are then named after the votes are tallied.
Entry forms and design templates are available at all WPL branches or online at mywpl.org/bookmark-design-contest.
Throughout September, the library also offers card sleeves to anyone signing up for a new card. “New library card designs are coming very soon,” the announcement said.
