Worcester shooting now double homicide, mother and daughter dead

The two victims in yesterday’s shooting in Worcester have now died. Police are investigating the double homicide

WORCESTER—A woman and her daughter have died following a shooting that occurred yesterday in Worcester, according to several reports and the Worcester Police Department.

On Tuesday, March 5, around 3:09 p.m., Worcester officers were dispatched to the area of Lisbon Street at Englewood Ave. for a report of gunshots. Officers found a parked vehicle with two females with gunshot wounds inside. Both had suffered serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

The victims have been identified as a mother and her daughter, and both were pronounced deceased today at the hospital.

In what many referred to as a “usually quiet neighborhood,” the eruption of gunfire could be heard by several residents, WCVB reported, adding that investigators were spotted examining a gray Nissan SUV with several bullet holes in it parked on Englewood.

On Wednesday afternoon, a joint statement was issued from City Manager Eric D. Batista, Mayor Joseph M. Petty, Interim Police Chief Paul Saucier, and Superintendent Dr. Rachel Monárrez.

“Today we mourn the senseless loss of two Worcester residents, a mother and daughter whose lives were taken far too soon and far too tragically,” said the statement. “Collectively, we ask for patience and privacy on behalf of the victims’ family and friends and for the Worcester Public Schools who are grieving the loss of a student. An act of such violence has no place in our city.

“The residents of Worcester deserve better, and we will stand alongside our community in sorrow and solidarity. Our appreciation goes out to the members of the Worcester Police Department, the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, and to all first responders who assisted. Worcester is a resilient community, and we know that our residents will lovingly embrace the victims’ family and friends as we work toward healing from this traumatic event.”
