WORCESTER—The city is recognizing outstanding women leaders later this month at the annual Woman and Young Woman of Consequence Awards, a program honoring those who have made a lasting impact in the community.
The Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (ACSW) hosts the ceremony Tuesday, Aug. 26, in the Levi Lincoln Chamber at Worcester City Hall. Refreshments and networking begin at 5:30 p.m., with the program scheduled from 6-7 p.m.
This year’s theme, “Empathy in Action,” shines a light on the qualities the awards aim to spotlight. Abby’s House Executive Director Julie Orozco delivers the keynote address, and Worcester Youth Poet Laureate Serenity Jackson performs.
The Woman of Consequence Award recognizes a woman who lives, works, or volunteers in Worcester and has demonstrated exceptional leadership, compassion, and dedication to community service. The Young Woman of Consequence Award is presented to a high school junior or senior in Worcester who has shown leadership and created tangible change.
For 2025, the Young Woman of Consequence Award also carries a new scholarship opportunity. The winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per year) toward tuition at Assumption University. All nominees for the youth award are eligible for a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year) if they choose to attend Assumption.
Since 1996, the ACSW has presented the awards to honor extraordinary women in Worcester. Established in 1977, the committee serves as a forum to address issues affecting women and advises the city on policies related to equity, empowerment, and opportunity.
The ceremony is open to the public.
