Worcester residents are able to get rid of those bulky household items for free throughout August as the city temporarily waives bulk waste drop-off fees.
The fee waiver applies to items brought to the city’s Residential Drop-Off Center during the month, though appointments remain required.
According to the City of Worcester, residents may schedule appointments for Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Residents must provide proof of Worcester residency when dropping off items. Appointments can be made online or by calling 311.
The city said the Residential Drop-Off Center typically charges $5 per bulk item, with different fees for mattresses and box springs. During August, those fees will be waived.
The city also announced a limit on the number of items accepted per appointment. While the initial announcement said residents would be limited to 15 items, the city’s bulk waste disposal webpage now states there is a five-item limit per appointment during the August fee waiver. Residents are encouraged to confirm current requirements when scheduling an appointment.
Commercial vehicles are not permitted at the facility.
The Residential Drop-Off Center is typically open from April through November, weather permitting.
