WORCESTER—Want to help change Worcester? The city’s youth are getting their chance.
The Worcester Youth Council is hosting a Youth Convention on Thursday, April 24, designed to engage young residents in local government and community issues. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Doherty Memorial High School, 299 Highland St., and is open to Worcester youth ages 12 to 24. An after-party follows from 4:30-6 p.m.
More than just a meet-and-greet, the convention aims to build leadership skills and provide young people with a platform to voice their concerns directly to city officials. Attendees will also take part in games, arts and crafts, and networking activities, all while enjoying free food and refreshments. Adults accompanying youth are welcome to attend.
“This is a great opportunity for youth looking to get involved in their city and advocate for their peers,” said City Manager Eric Batista in a city announcement. “Having an engaged and involved youth is critical to ensure our future generations grow into strong leaders who are actively involved with ensuring that our city continues to grow in the right direction.”
The convention features opportunities for youth to learn about public-service issues affecting their lives, meet other civically engaged peers, and gain a better understanding of how local government works. Those interested in youth advocacy or simply curious about making a difference in Worcester are encouraged to attend.
The event is free, but attendees must RSVP in advance to participate.
