WORCESTER—Representatives from AbbVie and Heart of America, along with more than 100 volunteers from AbbVie and Worcester Public Schools, recently celebrated the grand opening of a newly renovated STEAM Lab at Jacob Hiatt Magnet School.
Starting in the new school year, students get to use this Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Lab as a collaborative space for hands-on learning in these subjects.
According to the announcement, the projects planned for the lab align with the district’s Vision of a Learner future-ready framework, giving students a great opportunity to dive deep into STEAM education.
“We are incredibly thankful for AbbVie, Heart of America and all of the volunteers for providing our students with a beautiful new STEAM lab,” said Tammy Boyle, principal at Jacob Hiatt, in a statement. “This space will provide more engaging and impactful learning opportunities for our students in all areas of STEAM.”
The STEAM Lab is the result of a joint national effort from AbbVie and Heart of America as part of AbbVie’s Week of Possibilities community initiative. Since 2014, AbbVie and Heart of America have partnered to transform school spaces into STEAM labs throughout the country, including in Worcester at Forest Grove Middle School (2022) and Elm Park Community School (2019).
