WORCESTER—For the fourth consecutive year, the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office marked Random Acts of Kindness Week by visiting all 60 cities and towns in the county, distributing 3,500 goody bags to residents in an effort to promote community goodwill.

The national initiative, recognized annually in the week leading up to Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17, encourages people to engage in small gestures that uplift others.

“Our duty as a law enforcement agency is to build bridges and strengthen the bond between our department and the communities we serve,” Sheriff Lew Evangelidis said in a press release. “Our team takes immense pride in contributing to the betterment of Worcester County and continuously looks for ways to spread positivity.”

The goody bags, filled with donated items, were made possible through sponsorships from Care One at Millbury Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care, Pepsi of Worcester & Windham, and Polar Beverages. The initiative was coordinated with the Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff Association at no cost to the department.

Founded in the 1990s, the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation began as a response to increasing reports of violence, urging people to instead focus on kindness. The foundation’s motto, “Make Kindness the Norm,” continues to drive its mission today.

The Sheriff’s Office regularly hosts community events throughout the year to foster relationships between law enforcement and local residents. More information about their programs can be found at www.WorcesterCountySheriff.com or on their social media channels.
