WORCESTER—Abby’s House just announced the completion of its renovated shelter facility, celebrating with a ribbon cutting ceremony on June 20, at 10 a.m. at 21-23 Crown St. This milestone marks a significant step in Abby’s House’s mission to provide a safe, welcoming space for women and children experiencing homelessness.
The event will gather community leaders, donors, volunteers, and supporters to honor the organization’s dedication to ending homelessness and offering essential services. With this renovation, Abby’s House has doubled its bed capacity, enhancing safety, accessibility, and critical services for women, with or without children.
Notable attendees include Senator Robyn Kennedy, Mayor Joseph Petty, and City of Worcester’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mattie Castiel.
“This ribbon cutting signifies much more than celebration of our updated shelter; it represents our united effort to provide hope and support to those in crisis,” said Executive Director of Abby’s House Julie Orozco in a statement. “Housing is not a privilege, but a fundamental right. We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of our donors, volunteers, and partners who have made this project a reality.”
For more than 48 years, Abby’s House has been a beacon of hope for women experiencing homelessness. Responding to the rising demand for shelter, supportive housing, and essential services in the Greater Worcester area, the organization has embarked on an ambitious project to expand its capacity and enhance the quality of care it provides to those in need.
