WORCESTER — Webster First Federal Credit Union has donated a combined $25,000 to several local food pantries, aiming to help address food insecurity during the holiday season, according to a recent announcement from the credit union.
The donations were distributed among three organizations serving communities across the region, with the goal of providing immediate support to food pantries facing increased demand at the end of the year. Holiday months often bring heightened need as families juggle higher costs for heating, travel and basic necessities.
“We remain committed to ensuring every neighbor is fed and supported with dignity throughout this holiday season, a time when it is most needed by so many in our community,” Webster First CEO John Thomasian said in the announcement.
The largest shares of the donation went to the Webster Dudley Food Share and the Worcester County Food Bank, which each received $10,000. The Worcester County Food Bank reported distributing more than one million pounds of food in November alone, highlighting the scale of need across the county. An additional $5,000 was donated to The Greater Boston Food Bank to support its hunger relief efforts throughout Eastern Massachusetts.
According to the credit union, the funds are intended to help these organizations continue providing nutritious food to individuals and families facing economic hardship, particularly during the winter months.
