WORCESTER—City officials are conducting a series of overnight maintenance projects at Worcester’s water filtration plant this month, with residents advised to conserve water during the scheduled work periods.
According to a city announcement, the maintenance is intended to improve the function and reliability of the municipal water system. The work is being carried out during three overnight windows spaced one week apart, between midnight and 4 a.m.
The first round of maintenance took place April 9, with additional work scheduled for April 16 and April 23 during the same overnight timeframe.
Officials said the work “may cause a brief drop in pressure or a brief loss of water within this timeframe,” according to the announcement. Water service is expected to return to normal at the conclusion of each maintenance period.
City officials are encouraging residents and businesses to conserve water during the overnight work hours. The announcement advises avoiding high-consumption activities such as laundry, dishwashing and other water-intensive uses whenever possible. Large and critical water users are also encouraged to take appropriate precautions.
The maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability of Worcester’s water infrastructure and minimize potential disruptions during peak usage hours, with overnight scheduling intended to limit the impact on residents and businesses.
