Habitat for Humanity names Gina Shultis development director

Shultis leads fundraising and development efforts for Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester, which serves families and veterans across 43 Central Massachusetts and MetroWest communities

Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester has named Gina Shultis its new development director, putting her in charge of fundraising and development efforts for an organization that serves 43 communities across Central Massachusetts and MetroWest.

Shultis brings experience in fundraising, development, marketing and communications to the role and will work with staff, volunteers, donors and community partners as Habitat looks to expand its fundraising capacity and community support.

“We are thrilled to welcome Gina to our leadership team,” CEO Debbie Maruca Hoak said in announcing the appointment. “Her experience, strategic vision, and passion for mission-driven work make her an outstanding addition to our organization.”

Hoak said Shultis’ role will include strengthening relationships with donors and community partners while helping support the organization’s continued growth.

Habitat for Humanity MetroWest/Greater Worcester builds affordable homes in partnership with local families and veterans. Rather than receiving homes outright, participating families contribute 300 hours of what Habitat calls “sweat equity,” helping with construction while learning skills intended to prepare them for homeownership.

Families then repay an affordable mortgage based on their income.

The organization’s service area encompasses 43 cities and towns in Greater Worcester and MetroWest, where the nonprofit works with volunteers, donors and partner families to develop affordable homeownership opportunities.

Shultis’ appointment puts much of the work of sustaining and expanding those efforts on the fundraising side of the organization in her portfolio. As development director, she will lead development initiatives and cultivate relationships with donors, community organizations and other supporters.

“We are confident her leadership will help expand our fundraising capacity, deepen community engagement, and further our mission,” Hoak said in the announcement.
