WORCESESTER—Venue management and live events company ASM Global has reached a new agreement with the city to extend its management of the DCU Center Arena and Convention Center.
The contract renewal, unanimously recommended by the Civic Center Commission, ensures ASM Global will continue overseeing the city-owned facility, a role it has held since the arena’s opening in 1982.
“ASM Global has continued to demonstrate its exceptional level of professional management at the DCU Center Arena and Convention Center,” said City Manager Eric Batista in a statement, “as well as the Worcester Common Oval Ice Skating Rink. We are glad to extend its contract, ensuring residents and visitors will continue to enjoy the high-quality experiences the DCU Center is known for.”
Since opening, the DCU Center has hosted more than 27 million guests for a variety of events, including concerts, sporting events, and public functions. The venue has undergone several expansions and upgrades, with the most recent $7 million project replacing 15,000 seats in the arena during the summer of 2023.
Doug Thornton, ASM Global’s executive vice president of stadiums, arenas, said in the announcement, “This extension allows us to build on our successes and ensure Worcester continues to grow its market share of events while winning over audiences with its unique blend of innovation.”
Under the new 10-year contract, ASM Global will invest $3.5 million into the DCU Center, focusing on enhancing food and beverage operations, creating digital advertising opportunities, and upgrading technology. The company will also continue to manage the Worcester Common Oval Ice Skating Rink and food services at the venue through Savor Catering.
Sandy Dunn, ASM Global’s general manager of the DCU Center, expressed gratitude for the long-standing partnership with the city. “Together we have experienced tremendous growth, and we look forward to continuing to drive economic development for Worcester and provide a first-class experience for our guests.”
