Here are five picks of things to do in Worcester this weekend:
- Musical creatures with the Chamber: Join the Worcester Chamber Music Society for “Animal Adventures” on Sunday at 3 p.m. and experience the magic of “Peter and the Wolf” and “Carnival of the Animals.” This free family concert brings Prokofiev’s classic tale to life, followed by Saint-Saëns’ playful musical portraits of fantastical beasts. Enjoy student artwork from Abby Kelly Foster School, meet the musicians, and enjoy refreshments for a full sensory experience. Admission is free, but reservations are required.
- Giuliano brings soulful storytelling to Vincent’s: Catch Giuliano at Vincent’s on Friday, Feb. 28, for an intimate solo performance of originals and covers. A singer-songwriter in the vein of Bruce Springsteen, Giuliano weaves storytelling with acoustic guitar and piano. Based in Worcester, he’s an independent queer rock artist whose music explores themes of gay identity, self-discovery, and mental health. Oh, and don’t forget to grab a meatball sandwich at Vincent’s while you’re there.
- A family-friendly Carnevale celebration: Celebrate Italian tradition at the Family Feast of the Carnevale on Saturday, March 1, at 8:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Providence, put on by OSDIA Worcester Lodge 168. This year’s event welcomes children, making it a true family affair filled with food, fun, and festive traditions. Kids can enjoy face painting, a special parade, and costume contests with prizes. Tickets are $70 for adults, $35 for kids under 12, and free for children 5 and under. With only 25 tables available (10 seats per table), be sure to reserve your spot.
- Retro Gaming Meets Orchid Beauty at Tower Hill: Through March 28, step into Pixels + Petals, New England Botanic Garden’s annual orchid exhibition with a nostalgic twist. This year, the vibrant world of retro video games collides with the delicate elegance of orchids, creating a one-of-a-kind experience. Wander through thousands of blooming orchids in the Garden’s subtropical conservatories while immersing yourself in pixelated charm. Visit during the day with general admission or experience the magic after hours with Orchids After Dark on select Fridays and Saturdays.
- Rock, twang & melancholy: a genre-bending night at Ralph’s: On Saturday, March 1, Ralph’s Diner hosts a lineup that refuses to fit into a single box. The Regals bring country rock swagger, Jake McElvie delivers sharp-witted songwriting with rapid-fire delivery, and Worcester’s own Berm blends Americana, punk, and folk into something beautifully bittersweet.
